UTM has only developed less than 50% of its land and there are many pockets/small parcel that is unsuitable for other activities. Working together with the Biotech RA, PHB, FBB, CEPP, FAB and IBD, as well as Jabatan Landskap Negeri, Jabatan Perhutanan, Taman Negara Johor etc, we can convert these land as a biodiversity bank to plant different trees, plants, Johor endemic species, and Asian plants. Researchers in plant biodiversity can come to UTM to study these plants as many of them will be endangered as urbanisation will threaten these species into extinction. These can include Johoriensis species, orchids, bamboos, ferns. Cost would be minimal because we would plant these species and let them grow naturally. Species can be sourced with assistance from many government agencies for free. It will enhance our Eco-Campus by providing interesting flora. Mature areas can be converted into biodiversity heritage sites in the future.
