Align with “New Academia” theme of the annual address by Y. Bhg NC which focused on job creation, academia-industry collaboration, and entrepreneurship (among others), I want to propose UTM via its UTM AIS or UTM FSKSM to establish a kind of CoE or Research Centre for Software Testing and Reliability. Looking at our daily lives that are heavily driven by software, the demand for quality, failure-free as well as reliable software is also high and crucial. Establishing such centre could put UTM as one of the major players in high-impact research related to ensuring software are rigorously tested with latest techniques, tools and approaches so that software produced is of high quality.
This proposed centre is not just a research centre on software testing and reliability, but also a centre for job creation, which industry could leverage on this centre for doing testing and reliability analysis of their software where students are the software testers. Students will be also exposed to conducting research in testing, actual testing job as well as consultation job for the future incoming projects.
Looking at UTM as the leader in engineering, science and technology, it is great opportunity for UTM to look into this matter to further expanding the capabilities and capacities as Research University.
