Currently, UTM is striving to be a more sustainable university, where energy usage is one of the main issues we can focus on.
One of the methods we can use is reducing energy wastage at certain places. For instance, student residential colleges. Some students do not switch off the lights or fans when they are out for class or other activities.
Therefore, in order to reduce this energy wastage, again we can make use of our matrix card or other gadgets with similar function.
We can actually emulate the mechanism which is currently used at most hotel rooms. Then, every student has to put in the card in order to use the electric supply. This may probably reduce a lot of energy wastage here.
At the same time, possibly the room key will also be replaced by this “card”, as this can strengthen the security of hostel and students’ safety. The “key” cannot be duplicated by anyone. Probably, UTM can encourage students to involve in innovation project like this to reduce the cost of manufacturing. Since most of the students are taking engineering courses, they can apply their knowledge from the class in this kind of project and obtain extra earnings at the same time. Indirectly, this may become one of the new approaches to inspire every scholar in UTM with Creative and Innovative Minds.
