I would like to suggest a research opportunity program for students. This is an idea I got from my friend who studied at HKUST (HK Uni of Science & Technology est. 1991). The uni offered a program called UROP Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. How the program works is that lecturers (supervisors) will have some research projects to do, then 2nd year students and above have the opportunity to join these lecturers, helping them with their research (through interviews etc).
I believe this is a really interesting program that UTM can try to experiment with. This kind of program would benefit the students & lecturer a lot which may include:
1) students would have more interest in their field of study
2) university will have more research output
3) students can have experience in proper research methods, which can help with current studies and when they graduate
4) stronger bonds between students & lecturers
5) students have something extra to write in CV
