Final year project assessments are currently handled manually – using hardcopy forms. Every semester, multiple assessment forms must be filled by various examiners just for 1 student. It is very tasking for FYP coordinators to manage and document all of the assessment process.
In MJIIT, Mechanical School, and Computing School, the FYP coordinators have taken initiatives to build their own FYP management system to handle the assessments digitally. However, each of the systems are build using different platforms and only the creator of the system knows how to use it. When the FYP coordination is handed to a new person, the management system will not be used anymore and the faculty has to go back to the manual process.
The MJIIT FYP coordinator has tried, since 2019 to propose a unified FYP management system to be developed by UTM Digital to ease and transform FYP management to be fully digital and to ease handover from 1 coordinator to the next. A series of meetings were carried out since 2019 with UTM digital and TNCA office after the proposal was sent. At the end of 2020, TNCA office said it will be possible for UTM digital to develop such system mid-2021. However, on March 2021, the TNCA office said it is not possible anymore because UTM digital is busy with other projects.
I urge UTM management to prioritize this FYP management system development by UTM DIgital because almost all faculties have similar FYP assessments concept and in need of this important manage system.
