My idea is to construct a separate kitchen outside each hostel building. For example, I live in Kolej 16(XB2). There is a small land between XB2 and XB1, where a reasonable sized kitchen can be constructed. This will be for students of both buildings (XB1 and XB2). And in each kitchen, there can be several counters (with locks) which will be dedicated to each student (one counter per student). In those counters, students can keep their utensils and spices etc.
I remember a seminar by the vice-chancellor of UTM a month ago. In that he said that there are no safety features inside hostel buildings that is why they have not made kitchens inside the buildings. But these new combined kitchens can be equipped with all the safety measures. Yes, it will cost some money to construct these, but it will be a huge bonus for the students, especially the international students. Thanks for your time 🙂
