Our UTM has got 50+ companies on campus (both spin offs and others) and yet UTM projects need commercialization. Filing IP patent is not the right thing to do if technology is not commercialized and its benefits are made known to venture capitalists.
I think, all the projects that are done in each faculty, should be listed on a portal where these companies and other companies (if interested) visit the page and pick up the projects and help UTM develop them into products.
The same goes to research projects. If a company is a partner in the project, the prototypes produced out of the project are much finer in quality than the otherwise.
